Siemens has collaborated with UN Women Germany on an upskilling initiative for around 600 young African women in South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal, and Uganda. The joint venture was started in April 2022. Now, the first round of workshops has begun. Siemens South Africa d a hybrid event to kick off the African Girls Can Code (AGCCI) coding camp and the SieMent EmpowHer mentorship program.
Through the African Girls Can Code Initiative (AGCCI), Siemens has worked with UN Women Germany to equip girls and young women in Africa with digital and other skills. The company has allocated €780,000 to improve employability and will supply laptops to all participants to assist coding camps focused on digital literacy, coding, personal development, and job-ready skills.
The hybrid event in Johannesburg sets off the training program, which benefits over 600 young women from South Africa, Kenya, Senegal, Rwanda, and Uganda. In the framework of a comprehensive 6-month mentorship program called “SieMent EmpowHer,” designed by Siemens South Africa, the young women will spend a whole day with their experienced female mentors from across the world, a journey that promises to be empowering and inspiring.
