Today, the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts (UTICA) announced the creation of the Digital African Confederation (AFRI’tech) in Tunis, where the Confederation’s headquarters will be. The move was declared originally on June 28 during the 7th edition of the International Fair for Professionals of the Digital Economy (SIPEN), which took place in Dakar, Senegal.
It is the result of a process that began over two years ago by signing a Memorandum of Understanding in Abidjan to federate the various African employer organizations operating in the sector and foster long-term collaboration among Africa’s private digital sectors and innovative startups.
Kais Sellami, President of the Tunisian Digital Union under UTICA, initiated the project and will serve as the organization’s first vice president. Antoine NGOM, president of the Organisation of Information and Communication Technologies Professionals in Senegal (OPTIC), and Patrick Mbengue, then president of the Information and Communication Technologies Operators Grouping in Côte d’Ivoire (GOTIC CI), also contributed to the organization’s establishment, and Antoine Ngom will lead the organization.
